High Deficit Means Decreased Funding for Most Non-Profits
High Water in Deficit Signals Bleak Economic Future for Non-Profits
According to the Associated Press the U.S. government set a new single month budget deficit record in February 2011. The reported shortfall allowed the government to stay on course to make this year's Hannual deficit the biggest in U.S. history.
This news highlights the steady devastating careen of the U.S. economy. All of this sets a tone for the country’s economic future that is bleak and can be devastating to companies and non-profits alike.
“These are hard times for non-profits, and the Beracha Foundation is primed to help them with Small Things-Great Love,” said Executive Director of The Beracha Foundation Dana Dunmyer.
While there are many reasons for the latest economic setback one major factor the AP pointed was the government collecting less tax revenue after millions of people lost their jobs. Additionally, it spent more than $1 trillion to bail out the financial system and stimulate the economy.
“The direction of the economy can be a real sign for the future of giving for non-profits, and Small Things- Great Love is a way to quadruple present giving into needed services,” added Dunmyer.
The Beracha Foundation’s Small Things-Great Love is a simple donation multiplication program that allows donations to translate into services at over four times the given amount. Services like information technology, website creation, donor management, outreach and more can be completely subsidized thorough the program.
“If a non-profit wants to not merely survive but thrive in this new economic reality, Small Things Great Love is clearly a way to do that,” said Dunmyer.
While the term recovery is used in the news, the truth is that the financial crisis and the recession that followed fueled explosive deficit growth. This deficit may well mean that non-profits will feel a pinch on down the line.
“Many non-profits are taking a hard look at their own future viability, best to begin building the ark before it starts raining to thrive in the new reality,” added Dunmyer.
